I had the honor of revisiting The Work of Byron Katie with my online community last week, and wow!
Every time I move my limiting beliefs through her powerful four questions I watch my mind open up in ways I never even knew existed. If you haven't heard of The Work, let me introduce you to it.
And if you already have some experience with it, maybe this is the nudge you need to have another look at it.
The Work is simple, but not necessarily easy. It is a profound process that will allow you identify and release the friction you are feeling in your life.
The first step is to come up with a short and clear statement around the issue.
~ Think about where are you experiencing frustration or conflict, and come up with a single sentence that encompasses what's going on.
Here are some examples: My co-worker / boss walks all over me. My husband doesn't listen to me. If I don't do everything right as a parent, my children will lose their way. My friend betrayed me. My dad does not...
Vision boarding is a powerful practice. It is something you can do anytime you are being called to clarify your dreams.
If you want to re-write your goals around some aspect of your life, creating a vision board can be a powerful tool to move you forward in the direction of your dreams.
It could be health calling your attention. Or maybe it is time to set new goals around your career. Perhaps you want to call in a partner or relationship, or even start a new life out on your own.
The miracle of human consciousness is we can direct our thoughts and actions. If we don't, they happen autonomically. But if we choose, (when we choose), we can decide.
We CAN create the life we want when we take responsibility and participate in the process.
We are POWERFUL.
Our thoughts and words and actions are powerful.
So what is it you want to call into your life?
Where do you want to focus your attention and energy?
Once you have a sense of which aspect of life you are going to hone in on, start...
I have been teaching Yoga for over 20 years and I have been practicing meditation for just as long. I have always tried to include elements of what I learn through my meditation practice into what I teach on the mat.
The teachings of Yoga and meditation are not separate. The goal of Asana practice is to condition the body to be able to sit and also to bring us towards a contemplative state; to prepare us for meditation.
For many decades there has been a misconception that Yoga is about stretching, or acrobatics. I am grateful that I learned Yoga in India where it is taught more traditionally. Yoga is a vast science / art. It encompasses more than just physical movements.
Today, I wanted to write a bit more about meditation because my students are asking for it. In the past, I would tell people to go to a 10-day Vipassina retreat. There are centers all over the world and it is by far the best way to do a deep dive into a silent practice.
I still believe if you can go to one of...
Last night I hosted a Zoom meeting with many beautiful women from our online Yoga community. We came together to discuss pelvic floor health, and other ideas around women's health. None of us was an expert on the topic, but we all had some experience to bring to the table.
With this topic comes a certain sense of shyness and even embarrassment. This issue involves personal and intimate details and sharing in a group is a courageous act. It seems that talking about these issues amongst ourselves is how most of us become educated and I am grateful this group came together and shared.
I want to share my take-aways with hope that other women might benefit from the discussion. Many of us grew up with too much taboo around this subject and our questions never got answered. I hope this discussion and this Blog will open up the conversation so we don't feel alone in our search for information and knowledge about this part of our bodies.
Why is it we feel so shy to discuss our vaginas?...
One of my community members asked a brilliant question last week.
" Although I experience moments of connection to my body, they are fleeting. Is there a trick to keep yourself fully in touch?"
Everyone gaps out now and again, but I think it is worthwhile discussing what can help us develop attention and awareness.
In this blog post I am going to give you my best tips and lay out WHY this connection is so important and beneficial.
1 - Forget about the pose as the goal!
Instead, think of the pose as an opportunity to view yourself from different perspectives.
The Asanas allow us to witness movement in the body. We notice limitations; patterns. The body is tactile in nature. Tangible. It is easier to observe than trying to figure out our minds which whirl and are illusive.
The physical Asana practice is our chance to move, but also our chance to develop awareness of ourselves.
If we get carried away with seeing the pose as the goal, we don't notice the present; the process; the...
Every time I let myself dream...
Every time I give myself permission to feel the call...
Every time I follow my heart...
Every time I get clear about what I have to offer...
Magic happens.
I believe we all come here with a mission. We are each given gifts and talents. Over our lifetime it is easy to let doubts creep in. It is easy to become complacent.
There are so many pressures from society to conform; to behave. We are expected to act a certain way. We learn very quickly some ideas are accepted, others are rejected. With age we understand more and more about the status quo and life is easier if we comply.
Over my lifetime I have had these waves of courage. I made a decision to go to India to follow my heart and learn about Yoga and meditation. I took a chance and moved to Mexico to be with the love of my life. On a whim, I dove into teaching Yoga online.
None of these things came easy. It would have been more comfortable to follow the script and play along with what...
