I don’t teach drop in classes.
In order to get the benefits from a Yoga practice CONSISTENCY is key. My clients understand they need to commit. I teach in a variety of different ways, but all of them encourage committed, consistent practice.
I tell my clients that fifteen minutes of practice everyday is better than doing two hours, once every two weeks.
I often ask: “Do you brush your teeth everyday?”.
This is how I want my students to see their Yoga practice. It is something we do daily.
I say it straight. The best time to do a practice is right when you wake up. It is evident in my own life that if I don’t do my practice before the day gets started, it is difficult to make it happen.
I encourage my clients to get up a bit earlier, if necessary, in order to be able to fit the practice in before the day gets started.
Once my clients have got a mindful, movement practice well established, I also share breath awareness practices, conscious relaxation techniques, and reflective exercises that help with mindset and negative thought patterns.
We start with the physical, but in time we touch on the more subtle aspects such as becoming aware of and re-writing limiting beliefs. We touch into emotions and how to process them.
Part of what makes my support effective is my expertise. I have been working with people in this capacity for twenty five years! I have been watching bodies for a LONG time. I have been practising even longer.
I can see where in the body people are stuck. It is obvious to me where they need to pay attention and how they can create unity where fragmentation has set in. I sometimes refer to putting on my Yoga goggles when I teach.
My years of experience allow me to catch ways people might be moving that is creating strain or pain and I can offer clear suggestions how to create a safe and effective practice.
My approach is far from a ‘one-size-fits-all’ style Yoga. I encourage each person to tune into their own body and find the information inside.
Everyone learns differently and I draw from many different ways of communicating the teachings.
Sometimes I demonstrate with my own body what I want people to pay attention to. Sometimes, we look at and learn from other people in the room. Often I use analogies and metaphors to communicate an idea. When possible, I transmit the teachings through touch. There are many ways to learn and I adapt to who is in front of me and use a variety of methods depending on what I see is working.
One other important element in what I do is to create a safe environment. I pride myself on providing a space where people feel secure to explore those deeper places inside of themselves. I form close relationships with my students where trust is built and developed. The work within the body is intimate and having this trust is crucial. My students can see and feel that I truly care about them, so they feel comfortable going inside. They feel safe to explore places within themselves that otherwise they may hide from.
Diving deep is definitely one of the aspects to my approach that allows for deep transformation. Over time my students touch on all the different aspects of their being. This work takes time and I hold people accountable to stay the course.
When there are bumps in the road, I offer extra support and guidance. Often I will reach out and make sure my clients know I am there for them. If they are struggling to get to their practice I nudge them gently back to their mat and provide whatever encouragement they need to start again.
I have zero judgment and understand the challenges and pitfalls on the Path. I have walked it myself and I share everything that has worked for me with my clients. I draw from many different teachings and techniques and depending on where someone is at, and what they need in the moment, I provide specific guidance for each individual.
We work on the physical, mental and emotional aspects of our being and find our way to grow a connection to spirit. Once clients have a sense of who they are, and have established a practice, it is their own inner guidance that starts to guide them.
This is my favourite part of my work. I love watching people become empowered to take care of their own health and wellness. It is music to my ears when clients tell me they are doing a practice everyday.
Once my clients have established a consistent practice they experience a freedom in their body and mind they couldn’t have imagined when they began. They move past physical limitations and a childlike agility emerges.
My clients regain energy and vitality and you can see it in the way the walk and move. Light comes back to their eyes and they feel inspired about life.
My clients report even their relationships improve! Somehow when they find the truth inside of themselves, it translates out to everyone they spend time with.
I often hear stories of amazing adventures they are going on: hiking trips, kayaking adventures or world travel. They feel confident to try new activities and get out there to explore the wider world.
Frequently I get to hear how my clients find faith in themselves and how they are following their hearts and changing the direction of their life. They find the courage to pursue the job they always wanted, or they find the partner they were always dreaming of.
Often I get to see the way everything starts to fall into place in all aspect of their life as they become more aligned in their mind and body.
It is exciting to watch the changes people go through once they commit to this work. It is an honour to be a part of their healing journey and I am always in awe of the way people start to shine as they drop old pain patterns.
You can too!
This is a practice that will give ANYONE who practices consistently benefit.
