This week I got a powerful request for help. I am always inspired by the people who decide it is time to make a change.
Naturally, it seems, we as humans, find it easier to just go along as we are. To change our trajectory is not easy. Maybe it has something to do with Newton's first law: an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force.
When people reach out to me because they have reached a point where they feel they can no longer keep living the way they are living I am always impressed. It is a BIG step.
Both because it is not easy to make that decision and for most of us, it is not easy to ask for help.
I am not sure that we can make the change alone.
There are many obstacles in our way when it comes to making change.
I feel so proud of people when they come to me with the decision to take action. When people reach out and acknowledge where they are stuck and ask for help, I know they have already overcome the biggest hurdles.
It is brave to acknowledge what is NOT going well in our lives. We like to deny these things and pretend that everything is okay. It is easier to go along and be comfortable with the baseline we find ourselves in.
When people take this first step of realizing everything is actually not okay, and that they need help to get unstuck it is such a POWERFUL moment.
It is my honour to work with people when they come to this decision. I can help people move in the direction of health and wellness, but not until they get to this point.
Two things I have learned:
1- It is impossible to convince people they need to make change.
2- When people try to do it alone they often revert back to their old ways because they don’t have the support and guidance to hold them while they make the change.
I believe we are living in a time where we are collectively feeling this call for change. What we have been doing is no longer working. We are, more than ever, seeing the dysfunction.
In so many aspects of our lives we are seeing the imbalance; the dis-ease.
It is possible to re-establish health and harmony in mind, body and soul.
These Ancient practices provide a framework. They have been around for thousands of years because they do indeed work.
There is support if you look for it.
If you are feeling discontent, if you are suffering with pain, if you are tired of feeling less than optimal ~ first: admit this to yourself.
Acknowledge: my life is not what I want it to be. Start to reckon with the fact that where you are is not where you want to be. It can feel really tough to admit this to ourselves, but this is the first step.
And then, reach out for help. You are not expected to make the change alone. There are people who have gone before you and who have carved a path. It is so much easier if we have guidance and support when creating a shift.
Nobody is going to judge you for where you are at. Or if they do, these are not the people you want in your life. The truth is most people have been where you are. At some point on our journey, we all lose our way. It is normal. It is easy to get caught in bad habits.
The key is to notice. The opportunity is in admitting when we find ourselves there. Accept it. And then take action.
One of the things I have realized in helping people on the journey of health and wellness is change happens one step at a time.
Often when we realize we need to make a move, we look up at this mountain or staircase and think, “I can’t scale that!”. It creates overwhelm.
But if we can stand back and see that getting there is a matter of taking just one step, then another, then it feels do-able.
Reaching out and asking for help is one of the first steps.
Find a coach or program or course that can provide you with the support or a framework while you make the change.
It is possible.
You deserve to feel well, whole, happy.
I am not saying this journey is easy. But it is worth taking. Those first two steps are the hardest.
If you find yourself stuck in a rut, acknowledge it is time to make a change, and then reach out for help.
